A supportive environment and dedicated coaches fuel Daisey’s passion for netball

Case Study

This International Women’s Day we’re shining a light on the success stories of young women and girls within the StreetGames network to inspire and motivate others.

Daisey Cotterill, 24, first joined West Bromwich Netball Club in 2011 during her time as a student at George Salter Academy. Initially shy and not particularly sporty, Daisey was introduced to netball by a friend and quickly became an integral part of the club. Together with her friends, she noticed a lack of accessible sports opportunities in their area, which spurred them on to become more involved. Transitioning from school extracurricular sessions to club activities, Daisey and her friends found a supportive environment and dedicated coaches that fuelled their passion for netball.

Daisey’s involvement with the club brought her immense joy, offering opportunities to participate in various competitions, including county, regional, and national levels, as well as StreetGames festivals and volunteer work. The club became like a second family to her, providing not only sports experiences but also personal growth and lasting friendships.

Her dedication to netball led to a string of achievements, including appearances in national finals, coaching qualifications, and earning a degree in Sport Coaching Science. Daisey then went on to found AnyGirl Netball CIC.

Daisey’s involvement in sport has been life changing, equipping her with essential skills including confidence, resilience, and leadership. StreetGames played a crucial role in her journey, providing training, personal and professional development opportunities, and a supportive community. Her goal is to continue positively impacting young people’s lives by establishing her own sports centre in the future.
